Good to Know

Platform restrictions outside any integration tool's control

Customer profiles and loyalty data

Customer databases and loyalty program data cannot be synced between POS and marketplace platforms through Nventory. eBay also restricts seller access to buyer contact data.

Gift card balances

Gift cards and store credit balances are platform-specific and cannot be synced between POS and ecommerce systems.

eBay buyer messaging and Resolution Center

eBay's messaging system is closed to third-party APIs. Buyer communication and dispute resolution stay in eBay's platform.

eBay Promoted Listings campaigns

eBay advertising (Promoted Listings Standard and Advanced) is managed through eBay Seller Hub. Nventory does not control ad spend or campaign settings.

eBay Global Shipping Program routing

eBay's GSP handles international shipping logistics independently. Nventory syncs domestic fulfillment and tracking but does not interact with the GSP hub.

Things to Consider

Platform-specific details and how they affect this integration.

Challenge

eBay auctions tie up one unit for the duration of the listing (often 7 days). If that same unit sells at the Square register mid-auction, the auction must be ended early or the seller faces a cancellation after the auction closes.

Nventory's Approach

Nventory reserves one unit of inventory per active auction. If a register sale depletes the reserved unit, Nventory can auto-end the eBay auction early or alert you to decide. For Buy It Now listings, quantity adjustments happen instantly.

1

Connect Square and eBay to Nventory

Authenticate your Square POS account and eBay seller account. Nventory imports product catalogs from both platforms.

2

Map Square Items to eBay Listings

The system matches products by SKU, UPC, or title. Verify the mappings and create listings for any Square items not yet on eBay.

3

Set Inventory Sync Rules

Configure how stock is shared between Square and eBay. Set buffers for items with limited quantity or enable full pool sharing for high-stock products.

4

Enable Real-Time Quantity Updates

Nventory pushes quantity changes to eBay via the eBay Inventory API whenever a Square sale, return, or stock adjustment occurs.

5

Fulfill eBay Orders from Your Store

eBay orders flow into Nventory and can be fulfilled from your Square POS location. Nventory uploads tracking numbers back to eBay automatically after shipping.

Frequently Asked Questions

Nventory reserves one unit of inventory when an auction is active. If the item sells in-store before the auction ends, Nventory can automatically end the eBay listing early or notify you to decide.

Nventory syncs core product data between Square and eBay. eBay-specific fields like item condition, item specifics, and category are managed on the eBay side and preserved during inventory sync updates.

Yes. Nventory works with eBay's managed payments system. Payment processing stays on eBay's side while Nventory handles inventory and order synchronization.

You can map different condition listings to different Square products or variations. For example, New and Refurbished versions of the same SKU can track separate inventory counts through Nventory.

Nventory connects each Square register location independently and aggregates their available stock into a single eBay listing quantity. When a sale occurs at any location, only that store's count decrements and Nventory recalculates the eBay quantity in real time, so your listings always reflect the true combined availability across all your physical stores.

Yes. Every Square register transaction, whether completed via barcode scan, tap-to-pay, or cash drawer sale, triggers Nventory to push an immediate quantity adjustment to eBay through the Inventory API. For single-unit auction listings, Nventory auto-ends the auction the moment the item sells at the counter, protecting your seller rating from cancellation defects.

Square uses a flat, freeform category structure while eBay requires items to be placed in its strict taxonomy tree with mandatory item specifics — open Nventory's category mapping screen and verify each Square category is linked to the correct eBay leaf category. Check that condition codes (New, Used, Refurbished) are set for every listing, since eBay rejects items without a valid condition in most categories. Also review required item specifics like brand, MPN, and UPC, as eBay will block or suppress listings that are missing these fields even if the product synced successfully from Square.
